This is my next audio offering to the lopsided blog. It’s another dancefloor focused mix with virgin appearances on lopsided from wongo and Bird Peterson. Two producers who are on some hot sh*it right now. So watch our for the wongo wronged up loop workout and Peterson’s sheer elastic sideways dancefloor destroyer. Expect to hear more from these two in my future mixes, but for now here’s the tracklisting. I hope enjoy this mix and as usual comments and (sexual) expressions of love are welcome.

slipperama

And now for something completely different. Not so much dancefloor as headphone listening this one. I’ve been wanting to do a mix like this for ages: low-slung, wonky hiphop, dubstep, skwee and lots of stuff that doesn’t really fit into any of those categories. If this is your first visit to this blog, the other mixes should give you a better idea of the flavour we’re trying to push. The idea of this one was to represent the more downbeat side of wonk.

This mix is dedicated to two of my bestest mates, Sarah “Slips” and Palmerama (aka Palmergeddon). Hope you like it. =]

Our first lopsided party

March 9th, 2008 by ChrisK

Friday 14th March 2008
Al Duomo Restaurant, Pavilion Square, Brighton.

lopsided_party_1_poster_web.jpg

Lopsided is going underground, literally, as we invade the basement of Brighton’s favourite Italian restaurant Al Duomo on the 14th for a night of the wonkiest, filthiest beats. It’s our first Lopsided event ever and it looks set to be a top notch night of wobbling basslines, skronky synths and glitched out vocals all provided by your off-kilter beat bandits and Lopsided blog regulars Alex Stacey, Chris K and 2 Bit Thugs.

We’ve rocked the lopsided wonk sound at various clubs, bars and parties nationwide as well as promoting some of Brighton and London’s best mash ups. We’ll be packing an arsenal of the grittiest, glitchiest party-thrashing wonky dance music plus some exclusive production material so keep your ears peeled. Lopsided is a no holds barred party, not another ten to the dozen commercial club night. We’ll be smacking the wonky into the wee witching hours of 11pm - 4am and all for a mere five pounds sterling. We’re already hooking up some of the scene’s freshest and most innovative Djs & producers for our future parties so keep an eye on this blog and the myspace for details.

We’ll also be giving away free exclusive Lopsided mix CDs to lucky Brighton residents but if you’re a non-Brightonian you can download the new mix on this very blog – aren’t we nice. But let’s be honest there aint nothing like the real thing, so we’ll see you there.

paraskavedecatriaphobia

March 6th, 2008 by Alex Stacey

by flickr.com/photos/fredarmitage/

A mix I did a while back but am just getting round to posting now. The Modeselektor lp was just about to be released and was the hottest thing in the world no question. Understandably, bpitch didn’t want me to post this mix at the time so I’ve held back til now. As mentioned elsewhere, this blog is about promoting music and if you like these tracks go buy them.

The tracklist without my ramblings is here.

been following this guy for ages and love his stuff and tigerbeat is a wicked label but definitely haven’t had enough releases from rip off artist’s own label, inflatabl labl. i need more!
2. claude von stroke - birdshit (dirtybird)
great track and one of the only ones i don’t seem to have overplayed from the lp. i had to butcher it slightly and chop out the superwonky vocal that comes in later in the track (for the good of the mix like)

one of the lps of 2007 for sure. if you don’t know nestegg, believe me it’s worth ten bucks… strewth!!

7. zsa zsa laboum - tu veux ou tu veux pas (complete kaos)
wanted to get this in because everything else on the mix is was brand new when i did the mix nd this is from 1989 but still sounds wicked. i first heard this on a cassette with “acid para” written on it. it was mixed with a martin luther king speach. i’d love to find that mix again!

Chris K - Fuck Yeah!

March 5th, 2008 by ChrisK

candy_ravers.jpg

So this is my first contribution to the blog and overdue it is too. Mr Stacey has been bending my ears to get it finished of for a fair while now. This mix has it’s beady eyes and sweaty feet firmly set on the dancefloor. A fat slice of tech wonk for your earholes. Turn your speakers up and put you pants on sideways. Comments welcome.

ChrisK - Fuck Yeah!

the moistening

June 12th, 2007 by Alex Stacey

This is a mix of some fine wonky magic to give you a flavour of what I’m into and what lopsided.org is about.

wonky bizniz

Instead of writing about the mix as a whole, I’ve decided to write a little bit about each track. I’m a bit rusty at the old stringing words together to make sentences thing having not done any for a while but hopefully after a few posts on here, I’ll work out what I’m doing. So bear with me. Grrr.

Please leave comments!! I’d love to know what people think of this =]

Tracklist

The tracklist is available as a text file (without the bumf) here.

1. jan driver - x grand petrol

What better way to start to this blog than with big fat wonking grooves and what better place to find them than on Berlin label Grand Petrol. Seriously wicked stuff and you’ll be hearing more of it here if I have my way. =]

2. mathew herbert - mistakes (housey housey version) tresor

The fidget meister making a lovely chuggy track. This track *is* what I love about Herbert and on heavyweight Berlin label, Tresor.

3. beckett & taylor - hand on the plow (caro remix) hand on the plow

I’ve only recently discoverd Hand on the Plow through a tip-off from ChrisK but absolutely loving their output. This track, by label owners Beckett & Taylor is an absolute peach. Feed me more. I need it!

4. kane roth - fraction (krikor remix) multi vitamins

Superb, hard, funkin wonk from London based Multi Vitamins. I like!

5. mossa - swap 05 complot

This track has been at the front of my record box for ages now. The very essence of lopsidedness. I had volume issues recording this onto my computer and I ended up buying it again from Bleep so I had a decent quality copy. It turns out the digital version is actually a different mix which I found quite odd. I decided I like the vinyl version better so ended up using that. (with a little dash of compression to try to sort out the volume thing)

6. will saul & tam cooper - sequential circus (konrad black remix) simple records

Simple put out consistently top quality stuff and this track is absolutely lovely. A really lush remix from Konrad Black.

7. antislash - troma circus company

8. kean et sety - full prostate circus company

Circus Company are a really cool French label putting out bass-heavy wonkyness and these two tracks step it up a bit and get things stomping again.

9. the black e - spider power - sleep debt

This track is off a release from The Black E (Chrostian Vogel & Ben Pest) and is quite simply wicked. I hope to be hearing more from this duo.

10. Nefuka - Kcirtylop background records

One of my favourite artists Akufen here going all backwards named and doing minimal micro garage. Wonderful.

11. mr oizo - patrick 122 ed banger records

Fantastic disco wonkery from Mr. Oizo here. I heard a clip of this on his myspace page ages ago and pm’d him to ask for some mp3age. Alas, he never replied but I was well happy to hear that it’s getting a full release. Could be a big one this.

12. alex holland - put it to the back of your mind (cheeky dub) atlantic jaxx

Label owners Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe have been my favourite producers for many years now and I listen to anything they put out with eager anticipation. It always pleases me when they find dancefloor bombs like this. =]

Just to repeat what I said earlier: Please leave comments!! I’d love to know what people think of this =]
